When is a modest skirt immodest?

Here's a comment that was posted to one of my dances on YouTube on Monday:

"AdamAus85 (1 day ago)
Okay the dancing makes me blush, lol, but good on you for your efforts. "

Nice try, Shira. Here you actually changed the choreography to make this dance more modest. A gornisht helfen (it didn’t help).

Here’s the funny part, folks—if you watch closely, you’ll see that it isn’t my hips swiveling, it’s my skirt. If I’d done the same move in pants, I don't think that it would have been of any, um, particular interest to a guy.

Bonus points go to everyone who guessed that the other time that a modest skirt isn’t modest is when a little girl is hanging upside by her knees from the play equipment. And you wonder why Orthodox parents complain about rabbis and/or yeshivot and/or community minhag (custom) forcing them to put their young daughters in skirts (see the comments to this post).

I dunno, but your chest is doing some swaying as well...

Great dance, btw.

OK, so I'm not Jewish, but I enjoyed your dancing and most of all, the smile on your face.

Is there a better way to worship than to dance, moving the body G_D gave you and enjoying music?

Is there a better way to express your appreciation for life than to show the joy you showed? I don't think so.

Carry on! You are inspirational and I hope you don't let anyone's comments let you down!

Thanks! I had a grand old time. And I'll take Psalm 150--"praise Him with drum and dance"--any day.

Okay, Pesky Settler, maybe I got a bit carried away in the introductory "rock-out." But here's the interesting thing: In the segment of the dance in which my skirt is swinging, if you look closely, you'll see that neither my shoulders, nor my arms, nor my hips are wiggling. So where's all the movement coming from? Answer: Look down--all the way. The only part of me that's swiveling is the balls of my feet, and it's that movement that's carrying all the way up to my neck, turning me from side to side. If I'd made this dance any simpler, you'd all be bored out of your minds. :)
